Hong Kong billionaire offers $130 million for a man to wed lesbian daughter

Cecil Chao, a billionaire Hong Kong real estate developer, has offered a “marriage bounty” for any man who seduces and marries his lesbian daughter. According to a report by Gawker on Jan. 23, Chao doubled the bounty he initially set at $65 million to up to $120 million.

That number apparently has been upped to $130 million. Chao originally made the offer back in 2012 after his daughter, Gigi Chao, married her long time girlfriend. The billionaire typhoon was so unhappy with the marriage that he offered the large sum of money for any man who could change his daughter.

According to Cecil Chao, he had more than 20,000 suitors and claimed he only wants the best for his daughter.

“I only hope for her to have a good marriage and children as well as inherit my business.”

How does Chao’s daughter feel about the bounty? She told a Malaysian newspaper:

“I don’t think my dad’s offering of any amount of money would be able to attract a man I would find attractive. I would be happy to befriend any man willing to donate huge amounts of money to my charity Faith in Love, provided they don’t mind that I already have a wife.”

She thanked her father but also told him to stop going public with the bounty. But Mr. Chao still feels its not to late to change his daughter’s mind on her sexuality.

It appears that no amount of money can accomplish that. Not only is Gigi Chao content with who she is and in love with her wife, she is also considered an LGBT activist in her country and very active with a gay rights group in their lobbying efforts to pass anti-discrimination legislation in the country.
