Honey Boo Boo and family involved in car crash

On Jan. 6, 2014, Honey Boo Boo and her family were in a car accident in McIntyre, Georgia. According to TMZ, the driver, Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson was waiting for the stop light to change so he could make a left turn. When the traffic light turned green, he proceeded across the intersection. A vehicle, coming from the opposite direction crashed into them. Allegedly the driver of the truck was speeding and had his lights off. The Thompson-Shannon family acknowledged that the other driver had the right of way. However, they failed to see him because he didn't have his headlights on.

The ambulance arrived to transport the family to the nearest hospital, but when they learned which hospital that was, they refused. They requested their bodyguard to drive them to a different hospital in an SUV.

Passengers in the car driven by Mike were June "Mama June" Shannon, and their kids, Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, and Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon.

Injuries sustained by the TV reality family were bumps and bruises. TMZ reports that Mike has a contusion on his back, and June has sprained her back and neck. Alana has a headache from hitting her head on the passenger window and Pumpkin has a bruised chest. Pumpkin now suffers from panic attacks as a result of the accident.

June released this statement to US Weekly, “As many of you have heard we were in a car accident last night. It was really scary for us, since it was the first time any of us had ever been in a wreck. We are definitely really sore today, but our top priority is to celebrate Pumpkin’s birthday. She turned 14 today and no matter how sore we feel we are going to go out and celebrate. As always we want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes.”

Honey Boo Boo and her family stars in the TV reality show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" on TLC. New episodes of the show begin on Jan. 16.
