Honey Boo Boo accident is a term that's been trending today, referring to a Monday night incident that left TLC fixture and former child pageant star Honey Boo Boo, 8, and several of her family members injured. TMZ broke the story on Jan. 7, and the family also released a statement. (See Mama June's statement below.)
Little Alana Thompson and her family were reportedly in their car, with June's husband and the kids' father-figure Sugar Bear behind the wheel, when the red light they were waiting at failed to stop the driver of a speeding truck, who came slamming into them from the other direction. According to the family, the driver of the other vehicle was barreling down the road with his headlights off. A passerby called 911; listen to that call in the video above.
Honey Boo Boo Accident Leaves Family Bruised and Sore Ahead of Pumpkin's 14th Birthday
Though an ambulance was called to the scene, the family declined its services as it was apparently affiliated with a hospital they didn't want to use. They instead were taken to another nearby hospital, driven by a bodyguard. None of the injuries sustained in the so-called Honey Boo Boo accident were considered life-threatening and mostly consisted of bumps, bruises and rattles nerves. June and Sugar Bear have back issues as a result of the accident, while Alana herself reportedly hit her head; sister Pumpkin (who turned 14 this week) is said to be experiencing "severe bruises and panic attacks."
Alana's mom, Mama June, gave a statement to ABC News on Tuesday. "We were in a car accident last night. It was really scary for us, since it was the first time any of us had ever been in a wreck," she told the network in a statement issued through a publicist. "As always we want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes."
The Thompson family became popular after Alana's appearances on the TLC hit show Toddlers and Tiaras, which led to Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a popular spin-off that focuses solely on the Thompson clan and their admittedly redneck antics.
