Honda Classic Michael Thompson first PGA win

After five years on the Pro circuit, Michael Thompson clinches his first PGA tournament win. Thompson won the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, on Mar. 3, 2013. The win moves Thompson to his career-high at number 45 in the OWGR, up from 114 before the tournament.

Thompson had a glimmer of formative success in 2010 winning the NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour, a developmental tour for players to become acclimated with PGA tour protocol. Thompson is slated to play in the US Masters tournament.

With a 50-foot eagle putt on the third hole and birdie from the bunker on the last hole for a 1-under 69, giving him a two-shot victory over Geoff Ogilvy.

WRDW-TV reports, "Ogilvy birdied two of his last three holes for a 69 to finish alone in second, which moves him into the top 50 and gets him into the World Golf Championship next week at Doral."
