On Tuesday August 2nd, southwest Miami-Dade became a mess of crime scenes when a murder, suicide, and attack occurred on Flagler Street, Coral Way, and Bird Road leaving Miami-Dade and Sweetwater police with a wide range of ground to cover. The disaster also left a five-year-old boy orphaned. So how did this disaster unfold?
Early Tuesday morning Laira Gonzalez, 28, got into a violent physical confrontation with her husband. This is when she contacted the Sweetwater police and a locksmith to her home. They had been separated for many months and after this altercation she was having the locks on her apartment changed when he shot her. At 2pm, her husband, Miguel Garcia came back to the Flagler Street apartment. Laira and Miguel got into an argument and he shot and killed her. After she was murdered, her alienated husband went after another man and wounded him. The wounded man was Osbel Cabrera, 28, whom Miguel rammed his car into after a high speed chase. Upon hitting Osbel’s car, Miguel got out and shot Osbel who was later taken to the Ryder Trauma Center. Relatives suggest that Osbel was romantically linked to Laira. After shooting Osbel, Miguel continued on his evasion of the cops before being cornered and shooting himself, dying a few hours later.
Jealousy can lead to disastrous outcomes, especially if one party has anger management problems on their own. You never know how someone will take things and should always be very cautious and careful around an ex-partner who seems upset. After an altercation, emotions are elevated and there is always a chance for someone to act in an aggressive manner. Be aware of your surroundings, be cautious, and in highly volatile situations be aware that ANYTHING could happen!
