Police said the body of a female teenager was discovered at 10 p.m. on Aug. 22 along the Mill Pond footbridge – a pedestrian crossing between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road.
Detectives released few details in a Friday afternoon news release, but said the unidentified teen was “pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15 p.m. by paramedics.” An autopsy will be conducted by the Nassau County medical examiner’s office to determine how she died.
Crime scene investigators had cleared and reopened the area by Friday morning, but homicide detectives remained at the scene investigating. A visible trail of blood marks the pavement along the walkway at the scene.
Police are withholding the identity of the teenager pending family notification, a news release said. The investigation is continuing.
