While homeschooling is a personal choice, homeschooling families should not feel that they are completely cut off from their school system when they need help.Homeschoolers should remember that they still pay taxes to support those school systems. Many school systems offer support services to homeschoolers that could include part-time school, testing services, special needs assessments and extra-curricular activities.
Columbus area public schools are becoming more and more willing to work with homeschoolers. Worthington Public Schools offers: achievement tests to replace end-of-year assessments if desired, as well as part-time enrollment. Students enrolled part-time can also participate in class-related field trips and co-curricular activities.
In Upper Arlington Schools, students can take a course or two in school. Students signed up for any course are then eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Students are also eligible for part-time enrollment in Westerville City Schools. Students in grades K-5 can enroll in 2 "specials" while students in grades 6-12 can enroll in up to 2 periods. Students can use their 2 periods to enroll in co-curricular classes such as band or choir. Those enrolled in 2 classes a day are also eligible for extra-curricular activities and clubs. They also offer special education testing, identification of disabilities and appropriate services, such as speech, that can be used for one of those two periods, if necessary.
Dublin City Schools allows students to enroll part-time. Students enrolled for at least 50% of the school day are also eligible for extra-curricular activities. Dublin will also help with schooling materials as long as there are available resources.

Great article!
Thank you for providing information valuable to many school choice families.
I am sure this is valuable to many homeschooling families, but I am always wary of public schools controlling home-schools
