The spring semester of Homeschool Tuesdays at the Knoxville Zoo is underway, along with some important changes to the program. Here is the tentative schedule of classes, with the new changes following:

January 25, 2011 Physics - The King and the Crown (Density)

February 1, 2011 Physics - Tally Ho! (Physics of Flight)

February 8, 2011 Physics - The Flying Kitty (Momentum)

February 15, 2011 Chemistry - What Matters (Matter)

February 22, 2011 Chemistry - Bond. Chemical Bond. (Elements and Bonding)

March 1, 2011 Chemistry - Toxins

March 8, 2011 Chemistry - Bioluminescence

March 15, 2011 Anatomy - Skin

March 22, 2011 Anatomy - Bones

March 29, 2011 Anatomy - Heart (and other muscles)

April 5, 2011 Anatomy - Lungs (Respiratory System)

April 12, 2011 Genetics - The Pea Plant (Basics and Heredity)

April 19, 2011 Genetics - Snakes and Ladders (Punnet Squares with corn snakes)

April 26, 2011 Genetics - Disease and Medicine

May 3, 2011 Zoology - FrogWatch (Training for biology field research)

May 10, 2011 Zoology - FrogWatch (Biology Field Research - off grounds)

May 17, 2011 Zoology - Off-Site Butterfly Field Study - Times TBD

May 24, 2011 Zoology - Butterfly Field Study (back-up date)

May 31, 2011 Zoology - Zoo Night Safari (7:00 - 9:00 p.m., included in OWLs)

Class info:

Grades K-2 meet at 10 a.m., and class lasts for 45 minutes. Grades 3-5 meet at noon, and class lasts for 90 minutes. Grades 6-8 meet at 2 p.m. and class lasts for 90 minutes. Any class may run over at times.

Important New Changes:

The zoo now sells Outstanding Wildlife Lessons cards which are good for five classes. You must buy an OWL card in order to attend classes. In addition, only zoo members will be allowed to attend Homeschool Tuesdays classes now. Visit the zoo website for more info on the changes.
