Homeschool: How do you know it's high school level?

www.TheHomescholar.com

I was consulting with a homeschool parent about the age-old question, “How do you know it’s high school level?”  She asked me how to tell whether “Movies as Literature” was a high school course.   The more we talked about it, the more confident she became.  Meanwhile, I was getting more and more excited about the curriculum she was asking about.  Learning literature through watching movies???  How cool is that!

When I was looking it up online, I noticed that the description of the  curriculum answered her question with ease.  It says, “This complete, one-year high school English course uses classic movies on video to introduce and study the elements of literary analysis.”

That’s the easy way to tell if it is high school level – it tells you!  And that’s the easy way to tell if it is a whole credit (whole year) course – it tells you!

I haven’t seen this product with my own eyes, but it looks like fun to me! If you haven’t seen it before, check it out!

How stupid do you think your readers are? If a curriculum directly states the credits on it, there would be no question about it. The question of credits arises when we piece together our own curriculum, or choose something that isn't marked for high school.

seriously? Movies as a high school literature credit. This type of thinking is what causes homeschoolers to look like idiots!! Then we ALL pay the price for that perception. I've just finished homeschooling my children through high school (my "baby" graduated in May) and they all did acceptable high school courses. The Math was REALLY high school Math. The Science was REALLY high school science. AND THE LITERATURE/ENGLISH was REALLY high school Literature/English. Now, we're battling with Technical schools who want to force us to take the GED....all becuase of people like this. I'm upset by this...but more upset by the fact that there are really homeschoolers out there who ARE doing it "lazy"...
    Movies for literature? Seriously???? :(

I just wanted you to comment that I went through high school and my English Literature class had me watch movies The movies we watched were Lord of the Flies and To Sir with Love. Lord of the Flies taught me that children left to themselves and without guidance will end up killing each other. And To Sir with Love taught me to have a deeper appreciation for my teacher. This Lady is right about meeting children at their level. After all the beginning of Wisdom is the fear of the LORD. I have a feeling you are using curriculum provided by a school, and that is your choice. I am sorry about your battles with GED. I will pray that God will work things out
    for you and your children.
