- exploring the KHS signature exhibition, A Kentucky Journey
- guided gallery visits with museum educators at the Old State Capitol
- live museum theatre performances
- optional hands-on workshops.
Watch live performances of Museum Theatre:
- 11:00 a.m. Friends and Jack Storytelling Series: Jack and the Robbers(grades P through 4): Sing with high energy as audiences sit a spell and story-tell about Appalachia’s favorite folk hero, Jack.
- 12:30 p.m. Look for My Picture: Raising the Flag with Franklin Sousley(grades 4 and up): Remember the life of a young Kentuckian who fought in World War II and became part of an American icon when he helped to raise the flag at Iwo Jima.
Investigate the Old State Capitol with a museum educator:
- 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Discover this National Historic Landmark’s
architectural features and rich history. Examine evidence of 19th-century government and take part in a mock vote in the Senate chamber.
Optional Workshops:
- Hands-on-History (all grades)1:00-1:45 p.m: Use your senses to help you understand history as you see, touch and even smell objects from the past!
- History Comes to Life (grades 4 and up), 2:00-3:00 p.m.: Bring history to life as students watch a performance of Westward into Kentucky: The Journal of Daniel Trabue,the story of Kentucky’s frontier era through the eyes of a man who interacted with hunters, settlers and Native Americans, and learn to use creative dramatics and other fun theatre techniques.
