Greek mythology and Greek writing have been getting a lot of attention in Hollywood lately (“Clash of the Titans” and “Troy” come to mind), but no one has really tackled one of the most important pieces of literature to come out of that time period.
Deadline reported yesterday that Homer’s “Odyssey” will finally be adapted to the big screen, but not in the way you would imagine.
Instead of doing a definitive faithful adaptation Warner Bros has hired James DiLapo to give it a sci-fi twist that will have it set in space.
Of course we all remember that the epic follows Greek hero Odysseus’ journey home from the Trojan War and all the trials he suffers to make it back to his wife.
I think this is a clever way to adapt the epic book, but I am still waiting for an actual adaptation with a solid cast (I really like that time period).
