A little known rebate program offered by the Texas Gas Service is finally getting the attention it deserves. The Austin Conservation Program has distributed over $4 million to Austin-area homeowners since 2009 and Texas Gas Service Customer Development Coordinator, Julie Hatfield, would like to see that number rise in 2014.
The program offers 16 rebates for home heating systems, water heating, washers and dryers, natural gas vehicles and more in an effort to promote increased energy efficiency. These rebates are currently offered to qualified residents within the city limits of Austin, Rollingwood, West Lake Hills, Sunset Valley, Kyle, and Cedar Park. Plans are in place to extend the eligibility to additional surrounding cities.
Homeowners within these areas may take advantage of this program in two ways: purchasing natural gas appliances and by making energy efficient improvements during the remodeling process. Improvements include attic insulation, air duct sealing, tankless and solar water heaters, and hydronic heating.
New home buyers may also participate in the program when purchasing new construction within the eligible cities. By choosing to have their new homes piped for natural gas, selecting gas and energy efficient appliances, buyers can qualify to receive rebates from $75-$600.
Hatfield stresses that it is important to remember that the rebates offered with the Austin Conservation Program are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding and eligibility may change at any time, thus it is important to stay informed by visiting the Texas Gas Service website or calling them directly at (512) 370-8243.
