A homeowner shot a man who attempted to break into his home Thursday morning in Norcross The suspect was caught later at a hospital in Duluth.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. at home in the 4700 block of Greenway Road, according to Gwinnett County police.
The homeowner, whose name has not been released, called 911 and reported that two men were attempting to break into his home, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
“A few minutes later, while the homeowner was still on the phone with 911, one of the suspects gained entry into the home by forcing a window open,” Cpl. Smith said. “The homeowner retrieved a handgun and fired at the suspect, striking him.”
Both suspects retreated to a black passenger car and fled the scene.
About 30 minutes later, Gwinnett Medical Center notified police that a man matching the description of injured suspect had entered the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Duluth police and Gwinnett County officers responded to the hospital where the suspect was taken to surgery in serious condition and will remain under guard.
He has been identified as 22-year-old Tajh Guillont. His condition was unknown late Thursday.
The second suspect, a black male with dreadlocks, was seen entering the hospital with the injured suspect. He fled the hospital in a black passenger car before officers arrived.
A short time later Duluth police located the suspect’s vehicle in an apartment complex near the hospital. Police are still searching for the suspect.
