After being robbed over the weekend, an Atlanta homeowner once again came face to face with an intruder Monday morning, but this time he was armed. Police said the man fatally shot the intruder, but it was unclear if the intruder was the same one who robbed the homeowners over the weekend.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the intruder who was found dead at the scene. Officials said they are waiting until next of kin is notified before releasing his name.

The shooting happened around 7:25 a.m. at a home in the 400 block of Connell Avenue in a neighborhood off Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta, according to Atlanta police. Investigators said the homeowner encountered the man inside his home and shot him. It's unclear how many times the suspect was shot and police have not released any detailed information on what happened. It's also unclear if the suspect was armed.

“The intruder was found outside the house, but we’re still speaking with the homeowner and trying to determine exactly what happened,” Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "On the surface, it would appear like a burglary attempt.”

Over the weekend, someone broke into the man’s home while he was there, police spokeswoman Officer John Chafee said. Investigators said they are still trying to determine if the intruder in Monday’s incident was the same person who broke into the home over the weekend.

Police have not released the identity of the homeowner and they have not said whether he faces any charges. Still, the investigation is ongoing, police said.
