The thought of making soap can seem overwhelming. Many people avoid the hobby because they think it’s dangerous to deal with Lye or too time consuming. The truth is Lye if handled properly poses no threat of harm and it’s easier than you think to make soap at home. This crock pot recipe makes it simple and you don't have to stand over the stove cooking forever. It’s a great recipe for beginners.
Things will need:
- Medium Crock Pot with Lid
- Sodium Hydroxide (LYE), can be purchased from Amazon.com

60% Olive Oil
- 20% Castor Oil

The essential oil of choice if you want it to smell good
- Water

Measuring cup, Pitcher and Spoon for the Lye
- Digital Cooking Thermometer

Electric Hand Mixer
- Rubber gloves
You don’t need to know any science to get started and can use an online LYE calculator to tell you how much of each ingredient you need to add. Simply check each ingredient you plan to use, and how much you want to make total, it do all the work and make you a recipe!

Instructions:
-Measure cold water for Lye and set aside.-Measure oils and put them in the crock-pot, using a stick mixer for a quick mixing, and turn on high and let it reach 120 degrees. -With your rubber gloves on, measure your Lye, pour LYE INTO WATER slowly, so it doesn’t splash. Never pour water into Lye or it will splash and irritate your skin. Wash your hands with milk if you get Lye on them. -Stir the Lye and water slowly and use the thermometer, when the temp of the mixture is within 10 degrees difference of the oil in the crock-pot, pour it in slowly and mix with the hand mixer. Mix until it reaches “trace”. Watch the Video included to see what “trace” looks like. You will be able to see small swirls on top because it is getting a little thicker. -Let it cook on high until for about 20-30 minutes, remove the lid and mix until it looks like vaseline and thick, if not put the lid back on and check it again in 20 minutes. - Once it looks like vaseline its ready to add your oils to make it smell great! Mix about 20 drops of eucalyptus oil, Lavender oil, and 10 Drops of Tea Tree oil for a very nice antibacterial anti-fungal spa smelling creamy soap. -Pour it into a big casserole dish and cut it into bar shapes after it rest overnight. They will be ready to use as soon as they are dry! No need for curing!
