Homeless man Richard Gere has reduced the price of his Strongheart Manor in The Hamptons in North Haven, New York 11963 to $56 million. Recently Gere had been linked in tabloids to Top Chef Padma Lakshmi, but yesterday, July 23, 2014, he was reported seen with a different "Pretty Woman," as yet unidentified, holding hands at a quiet dinner at Southampton's Tutto Il Giorno.
Watch the attached video about Gere being mistaken as homeless in New York City where he is making the film Time Out of Mind scheduled to be released in September 2014. Remember the 1964 Bob Dylan album by that name? Gere portrays a homeless man, apparently very realistically, trying to reach his estranged daughter.
The Geres purchased their Hamptons estate in three different parcels, the first and largest in 2005 for $6.9 million, the second and smallest lot at 0.91 acres in 2007 for $1.67 million, and the third 1.27 acres lot in 2008 for $2.72 million. Even with an untold amount in time and money spent updating the property, they should make an excellent return on the investments.
The 1902 main house offers 12 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, 4 fireplaces, a neutral colored living area, high ceilings, dark hardwood floors, large wood-framed glass doors and windows, bedrooms with double doors opening onto outdoor spaces, and a huge screened porch with several ceiling fans. The spacious all white gourmet kitchen with a barrel ceiling and much overhead lighting has a modern country feeling with plenty of white painted cupboards and a farmhouse sink. It has been updated with granite countertops and a breakfast bar.
Most news reports say the house is 12,000-square-feet but the listing has 19,000-square-feet, possibly including some guest house space? It is also called a multi-family home property with three separate lots.
On the 6.3 acres are manicured rolling lawns, blooming flower gardens, panoramic waterviews, an outdoor fireplace pavilion, a pool, a sun deck, a Casita®, a teahouse set in the middle of a small waterfront pond overlooking the coast, two guest houses, a 3 car garage, and over 300 feet of waterfront with dock permits. The listing calls it "a unique property that can never be replicated." It was apparently at one time the home of Richard Rogers who turned 80 in 2013.
The Estate originally went up for sale in July 2013 for $65 million, shortly before it became public that Gere and his model/actress wife Carey Lowell had separated. After 7 years of dating and 11 years of marriage, the couple, having gone their own ways largely due to different lifestyles, share their 14-year-old son Homer. Where Gere is a practicing Buddhist who attended the Dalai Lama's 79th birthday celebrations in the Himalayas and reportedly prefers a quiet life, Lowell is called a socialite.
