There are still good people in the world and Billy Ray Harris proved that over the weekend. According to the New York Daily News on Feb. 13, Harris received a diamond and platinum ring in his change cup that he knew had to be a mistake.
Harris is a homeless man in Kansas City. Harris lives under a bridge and asks for spare change in his cup during the day. Sarah Darling was one of the nice souls who stopped by to drop change into his cup on Friday.
Darling did not realize she was dropping more than just change in Harris’s cup. She had taken her rings off earlier due to them bothering her and put them in her change purse. When she grabbed change out of her purse to drop in Harris’s cup she also dropped her diamond and platinum ring without even realizing it.
Harris did not realize the ring in his cup until almost an hour later. He knew it must be a mistake and put it in his pocket to hold for a day. Darling did not notice her missing ring until one day later.
Darling made her way to the spot where she had given Harris the day before. Harris was there asking for change like he always does. Darling asked if he remembered who she was. Harris told her he sees a lot of faces and he wasn’t sure. His memory was jogged when she told him she may have given him something very valuable the day before. Harris knew exactly who she was then and pulled the ring from his pocket.
Sarah Darling rewarded Billy Ray Harris with all the money she had in her wallet. It is nice to see there are still honest people in the world. Even though Harris could have really used the ring for money, he chose character instead.
