Manchester police officers arrested a man who was a patient a Manchester mental health facility, after the man knocked an employee to the floor with such force that it caused the victim to lose unconsciousness and caused a bleed from his brain, according to a Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 press release by Manchester Police.

Police said Lamasa, Ca. native Christopher Blanchard, 31, no fixed address, is charged with the felony, Second Degree Assault.

At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014, several Manchester police officers responded to the Cypress Center, at 401 Cypress Street for an alleged assault. The victim who is a subcontracted employee of the Cypress Center was allegedly knocked unconscious by a patient, identified as Christopher Blanchard.

Blanchard was at the Cypress Center receiving assistance when he apparently punched the unsuspected victim and knocked him unconscious while he was sweeping the floor. Responding officers noted the victim had sustained injuries to his facial area, and located a pool of blood near the back of the victim’s head. Police believe the attack was random and unprovoked, the release stated.

Initial reports indicate the victim may have struck his head as he fell to the ground, which may have caused subdural and subarachnoid bleeding. The victim also suffered a broken orbital and lost a tooth in the assault. The brain bleed upgraded the charge from a Simple Assault to a Second Degree Assault, which is a felony offense.

The Cypress Center is part of Manchester Mental Health, a privately held company that provides assistance to people for various medical conditions. The Victim remains in stable condition at a local hospital.

Blanchard was arraigned at Manchester District Court on Wednesday and held on a $10,000 cash or surety bail.
