A homeless man from Riverhead was arrested Monday after police said he stole a pickup truck that was parked in front of a local deli, Riverhead Patch reported on Jan. 6.

Monwell Wright, 20, was behind bars Monday evening on a felony charge of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, according to police and jail records.

Police allege Wright hopped into a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck that was parked in front of the Express Deli on Osborne Avenue in Riverhead and sped away.

The Dec. 28 car theft sent investigators combing the neighborhood, where they found the vehicle at a business on nearby Hubbard Avenue.

Detectives said Wright was arrested Monday after police questioned him in an unrelated incident along West Main Street. He was taken into custody without incident.

Records show Wright faced a judge Monday at the Riverhead Town Court and was later transported to the Suffolk County Jail.

The date of his next court appearance was not immediately available.
