"Homeland's" season three finale airs on Sun., Dec. 15, 2013, but spoilers have already been posted on the internet according to a Dec. 14 article on The Wire. The explosive finale stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin. The suspenseful thriller is returning for a fourth season in 2014 and it appears that the storyline will take a turn. Attached is a video trailer for the season finale, which shows dramatic highlights of the show.
In addition to the spoilers, there has been major casting news for the fourth season. Morena Baccarin and Morgan Saylor, who play Nick Brody's (Lewis) wife Jessica Brody and daughter Dana (Brody) Lazaro will not be series regulars, but will return as guest stars. This is not a surprise, as their storyline already seemed irrelevant to the main action of the thriller during season three.
The big question all season has been about the fate of Nick Brody, played by Damian Lewis, who has won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role as the tragic anti-hero. Brody is a former U.S Marine and POW turned terrorist who is now seeking redemption. The question of the day is whether Brody will live or die or simply disappear. Normally, Showtime releases the episodes to media two days ahead of the Sunday night airing, but the final two episodes have not been released in advance. This is an effort to keep the story under wraps and maintain the tension. According to The Wire, the leaked finale was apparently a rough cut from a summer press kit that was downloaded illegally. A discussion of the spoilers can be accessed by clicking the link, but enter at your own risk, as it may ruin the suspense.
Personally, I did click the link and hope that the spoilers are a red herring, because it is not a happy ending. However, "Homeland" has never been a happy story, so a joyful ending would have been too much to expect.
"Homeland" does offer drama, although the season has been uneven. The Dana (Saylor) storyline seemed excessive and seemed to miss the mark, almost as if it was from a different show altogether. Jessica Brody (Baccarin) seemed to be a side character, possibly due to Baccarin's real life pregnancy.
CIA agent Carrie Matheson (Claire Danes) was a wild card as the undisiplined agent ready to go rogue to save her lover and the possible father of her unborn child. Saul Berensen (Mandy Patinkin) has been an enigma while taking his temporary command of the CIA.
The eleventh episode of "Homeland" ended with Brody successfully accomplishing his dangerous mission and calling Carrie for help in escaping from Iran.....
The cast of "Homeland" includes: Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, Damian Lewis as Nicholas Brody, Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson, F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal, Sarita Choudhury as Mira Berenson, Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn, Tracy Letts as Sen. Andrew Lockhart and Morgan Saylor as Dana Brody.
"Homeland" received SAG Award nominations for lead actor Claire Danes and for the cast ensemble. SAG Award nods to Showtime's "Nurse Jackie," "Homeland" and "House of Lies."
"Homeland" has received multiply Golden Globe Awards for seasons one and two, but was not nominated for season three. Golden Globe nods embrace freshman series from Showtime
"Homeland" has also received Emmy Awards for Best Drama (2012), Best Actress for Claire Danes (2012 and 2013) and Best Actor for Damian Lewis (2012).
