"Homeland" sees the return of a main character for the third episode of the third season (Homeland 3.3) on Showtime, debuting on Oct. 13, 2013. "Homeland" stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin.
The attached video preview shows Carrie (Emmy winner Claire Danes) and Brody (Emmy winner Damian Lewis) as a robotic, creepy voice asks "Why are you here?" The episode shows where they are now and raises the question of how they came to be in their current states.
The character of POW/terrorist/congressman Brody (Damian Lewis) returns for the third episode of the season. The first two episodes have been focused on the fallout in the aftermath of the terrorist bombing at the CIA. Some critics have complained that the story focused too heavily on Brody's family, particularly on sullen teenager Dana Brody (Morgan Saylor).
Brody has been missing from the first two episodes, as no one knew where he was hiding. He has been at the top of people's minds as the most wanted terrorist in the U.S.. This episode does not explain where Brody has been, but drops him into the middle of mysterious action with some very dangerous characters.
Meanwhile, Carrie (Claire Danes) was last seen in the psych ward of a mental hospital, heavily sedated. In reviewing the final moments of the episode, it was satisfying to see Carrie curse Saul (Mandy Patinkin) for his betrayal, even though her tongue was thick because of her drugged state.
Having seen an advance copy of the episode, I do not intend to give away any plot points or spoilers, but will say that the third episode brings back some of the suspense that has been missing from the first two episodes of the season. Remember the edge of the seat tension that marked the first season? This episode reminded me of that tension that made watching "Homeland" so exciting in the beginning. At the episode's end, my eyes were as round as saucers and I was left eagerly anticipating the next installment to see what happens next.
