HomeGoods set for Pasadena Hastings Ranch grand opening

Shoppers in Hastings Ranch have had time adjusting to the HomeGoods sign sharing what used to solely be the domain of Sears.

HomeGoods will be occupying what used to belong completely to Sears.

The final touches are being put on the store in time for HomeGoods' grand opening on Sunday May 18 starting at 8am.

Off-price home fashions is the drawing card for the concept that launched in 1992.

HomeGoods is owned by The TJX Companies and 415 stores were operating at the end of 2012. "We believe that the U.S. market could support approximately 750-825 HomeGoods stores in the long term," according to a statement on the company's website.

HomeGoods and Sears appear to be like the Palm Springs tram: one car is moving up steadily while the other heads downhill.

A Jan 2014 report on CNBC said Sears does not have a turnaround strategy in place to reverse years of declining sales.

Sears has 798 full-line and specialty retail stores in the U.S. and Canada.

The chairman and CEO of Sears wrote in a Feb 27, 2014 letter to shareholders that 2013 justifies the "transformation from a traditional, store-based retailer to a membership company that serves its members across an integrated retail platform."

HomeGoods and Sears are located on Foothill Boulevard between Michillinda Avenue and Rosemead Boulevard in Pasadena.
