Even if they are only worn occasionally, there will come a time when you will need to clean your jewellery, and once you have you can get that magical sparkle back.

Going to a Jeweller

The easiest way for you to get your jewellery cleaned, would be to visit a jeweller. Most jewellers offer this service, and it can be done relatively quickly. They are able to get rid of all of the much and grime, that builds up over time, and bring your jewellery back to looking like new again. This is a paid for service though, and there are alternatives to going to a jewellers, as there are many household products which can bring back that sparkle to your diamonds.

  • Aluminum Foil
  • Vodka
  • Toothpaste
  • Denture Tablets
  • Club Soda

Believe it or not, these items can help bring back that sparkle to your jewellery, and take relatively no time at all, as well as being cheap.

Aluminium Foil

The aluminium foil when used with bleach free laundry detergent, works on the principle of ion exchange. All you need to do is line a bowl with aluminium foil, and mix in one tablespoon of detergent with hot water, making sure that the detergent is bleach free. Place your jewellery in the bowl for about a minute, remove from the bowl and rinse well with clean water. Then place the jewellery on the side, to allow it to dry in the air. Afterwards, you can take a soft cloth and buff the jewellery slightly.

Vodka

This is another surprising one, but it can be very effective in bringing back the shine to your platinum diamond jewellery. This will only work with crystal gem stones, and is as easy as dipping your jewellery in some vodka for a few minutes, remove grime with a soft cloth, or a very soft bristled brush, and then dry it off. This is a great way to get your diamonds shining, and you can do it whilst you go out for a drink with friends! Who says you cannot multi-task?

Toothpaste

This is another home remedy for a lacklustre diamond brooch, or any other diamond jewellery. All you need to do is take an old toothbrush, and use a little toothpaste to scrub at the diamond and the settings. This will loosen all of the dirt and grime, and you can rinse the jewellery off and let it dry, which will leave you with a sparkling diamond once more.

Denture Tablets

This is another very easy way to bring back that sparkle to your diamonds. Take a denture tablet and put this in a glass with water. Then all you need to do is add your diamond jewellery, and leave it to soak for a few minutes. Then take your jewellery out and rinse it thoroughly, allowing to dry itself off in the air. This is another quick and easy alternative.

Club Soda

Club soda is another good way to make your diamonds nice and shiny again. All you need to do is pour a glass of club soda and place your jewellery in the glass. Leave these overnight to soak, then remove the following day and rinse well. A soft toothbrush will also help to get the dirt from the jewellery. This also goes very well with vodka, so you may as well have a drink whilst you wait!

There are many home remedies for cleaning your jewellery if you do not want to use the services of a jeweller. Some are better than others, and you will need to take care when trying these out. In no time at all you will have your diamond jewellery, sparkling again as it was when it was new, and it won't take much time at all!
