Home invasions are getting too common - are you prepared?

An East Tennessee youth was shot and killed in an apparent home invasion Thursday night, according to a report in the Greenville Sun. The homeowner fired as someone was kicking in the door to his mobile home.

A later story in the Sun reports two alleged accomplices have been arrested in this crime.

A search at the Knoxville News-Sentinel website shows all too many home invasions recently:

There was the home invasion related "accidental" shooting I reported on here. Then there is the bizarre story of a woman knocked off of TennCare because her income increased due to her father's death in a home invasion.

Some of these home invasions seem bo be drug related, but others target regular citizens minding their own business.

How do you prepare for home invasions?

Sad to say, but even in our homes we need to be always aware. A good starting place is to learn and practice Jeff Cooper's four color codes of awareness.

Security measures such as locks and alarms are also a help. Defensive weapons should also be considered. Frying pans and edged weapons are better than nothing, but not very effective against thugs with guns. A firearm, with proper training is a much better tool for defending the castle
