No one likes to be in the hospital. Most people do not like hospital food. With tight schedules, compromises have to be made. Stopping by the hospital cafeteria today was a pleasant surprise. Instead of facing the long line of mystery food, today's offering was divided into several short bar sections including the grill, the fruit bar, salad items, and an ethnic themed (varies daily) ala carte bar.
At the grill was standard fare including burgers, hot-dogs and the sub sandwich of the day. Nothing fancy there. The salad items were prepared in advance but appeared fresh. After seeing the offerings, the daily special triumphed. There were several hot items including sliced ham, but the Cheesy Enchilada Casserole with a side of red beans and rice was the winner. While the presentation on the plate left a little to be desired, the food was wholesome and delicious, with ample cheesy chunks of chicken and tortilla. The biggest surprise was the price. All for under $5.00.
For dessert and snacks later on, there are plenty of bagged goods to take back to the floor or on the road. Cash and credit cards accepted.
