Herein we continue considering the show “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour which debated the question “Holy War: Should Americans Fear Islam?” via a panel of guests.
Consider another very, very direct question to a very, very important issue.
Daisy Khan is the wife of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf; it is they who are heading the efforts to build the “Ground Zero Mosque” (which was previously reported on here as Opposers of the ground zero mosque likened to the Ku Klux Klan):
ROBERT SPENCER: Well, Islamic jihadis point frequently -- they actually consistently explain and justify their actions and try to make recruits among peaceful Muslims by pointing to texts of the Koran, the actions of Muhammad and the teachings of Islamic law.
And so this is something that moderate and peaceful Muslims have to confront.
But instead, they always just displace responsibility and blame the people who are calling attention to these things. And in -- and then, of course, you have even peaceful Muslims like the Imam Rauf, advocating for Sharia, which does deny equality of rights to women. It does deny the freedom of speech, even cultural restrictions on the freedom of speech in his book, "What's Right with Islam." And, you know, you talk about that Islam doesn't allow for wife beating. Well, it's in the Koran---- to beat your wife. And also, there's a television show in Saudi Arabia where they discuss the right implements to beat your wife with.
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR: I want to talk to Daisy Khan, who -- obviously, you've just mentioned her husband, Imam Rauf. What do you answer to what Robert Spencer has just said?
Before getting to the answer note the points:
1) Islamic jihadis point to texts of the Koran (aka Qur'an), the actions of Muhammad and the teachings of Islamic law.
2) This is something that moderate and peaceful Muslims have to confront.
3) Instead, they displace responsibility.
4) Imam Rauf advocates for Sharia.
5) Sharia denies the equality women.
6) Sharia denies freedom of speech.
7) The Koran allows for wife beating.
8) A Saudi Arabian television show discusses the right implements with which to beat one’s wife.
You get the picture; this is a specific and detailed set of questions. Now, the very wife of Imam Rauf is being asked to respond and so she will certainly be made to, at least, defend her husband or answer for him as it is stated that in his book he advocates for Sharia which is oppressive.
Here is the answer:
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR: I want to talk to Daisy Khan, who -- obviously, you've just mentioned her husband, Imam Rauf. What do you answer to what Robert Spencer has just said?
DAISY KHAN, AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR MUSLIM ADVANCEMENT: Well, let me assure all Americans that the vast majority of Muslims around the world and in the United States -- are living a peaceful life. We are law-abiding citizens. We have people in the armed forces. My own niece, who's in her early 20s, went to Iraq for two years and just came back from there -- young, Arab-American, born in this country, served the nation to keep it secure. We have 1,000 police officers just in the New York Police Department keeping the city secure.
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR: I want to turn to…
And with that, with an “I want to turn to…,” the questions went unanswered and they moved on: Daisy Khan and Imama Rauf were let off of the hook. This is a classic evasive spin and Christiane Amanpour was complicit.
