Did you shed a tear at the loss of Fashion Night Out this year? What was a Shopaholic to do without her/his annual bubbly chugging/über window shopping/celeb stalking, er um, watching before Fashion Week? Well, fret not, Fashionistas, we hopped a plane and attended the event in another (more fortunate) city that did not suffer the same fate of the NYC fête. To Düsseldorf and beyond…
Yes, you heard right. Düsseldorf of all places did NOT get the fashionable ax (as well as their FNO sister city Berlin). But why, you ask? Who knows? Maybe the German Vogue editors LOVE the idea of an all night party to extend their usually short shopping hours. Stores are not open on Sundays and close well before 8PM Monday-Saturday. So, extending the usual shopping hours on a Wednesday and Thursday night to go past 6 or 7PM – well, my fashionable German friends, that sounds like a party….and it was!
Fashion Night Out is not THAT different here vs. NYC - you just don’t spy fashion celebs, i.e. the Olsen twins or DVF herself toasting amongst the stylish or wannabe styled. Sure, they got to eat cotton candy at Jimmy Choo and have petite cupcakes at the Jo Malone boutique in Parfümerie Schnitzler. (Let’s be honest, we LOVE this event BECAUSE of the treats.) But, for the most part, it is mostly just shopping with loud DJs and champagne with a treat or two. The one thing that was noticeably different? People were actually SHOPPING. So, "shopped ‘til they dropped" they did in Berlin on the 5th and Düsseldorf on the 6th.
Try not to mourn the loss of your “Bubbly Day of the Year (besides NYE)” next year. Why not just hop on a flight to one of the participating cities and revel again? We’re not sure if actually attending one of the remaining fêtes makes it “un-Vogue” - even Manchester has one. (Yea, we said Manchester!) But, the free bubbly always makes shopping so special.
Thanks, Vogue. You made free drink hopping fashionable – no matter WHERE you are!
Happy NYFW, Fashionistas!
