Ever wanted to be a tourist for the day in Hollywood? Some L.A. locals hate the idea of looking anything like a tourist, but the Los Angeles Times has put out an app for iPhone and iPad called LAT Star Walk that may be just tempting enough to get you in the mood to put on your fanny pack, sunglasses and grab your camera for a Saturday of walking.
Using GPS, compass and Google maps, the LAT Star Walk presents augmented reality for those who decide to take the walk of the stars. This app acts as a virtual map to the Hollywood Star Walk.
Using the iPhone's camera, objects are over-layed on the screen indicating what stars are placed on the ground around the user. This feature will presumably become available on the next iPad when it is introduced with a camera.
Once you've started your adventure, you'll be able to tap the star's name that you are standing near and get in-depth information like a short bio, complete catalog of their work, photos and other interesting information.
Always wanted to know where a particular star was located? Just search within the app for the star and you'll be mapped directly to the spot.
At risk of looking like a tourist, it is actually a great way to see the city in a different way and will definitely impress those friends and family members who are out to visit this spring from the east coast.
