For three decades guests have enjoyed Yamashiro’s Asian ambience and fantastic views of Los Angeles. Nestled 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard, this ‘Mountain Palace’ was the dream of the Bernheimer brothers in 1911, which brought in skilled craftsmen from Asia to replicate a palace located near Kyoto, Japan. The place turned out to be a masterpiece with its wonderful and serene Japanese gardens, a sacred inner court, and pools with rare fish, antique tapestries and lacquered statues.
Today, the 600-year old pagoda still stands, even though many of the treasures were auctioned off after one of the brothers died in the 1920’s. Yamashiro had its share of Hollywood glitter in the 20’s and 30’s.
Being so centrally located in the heart of Hollywood it is still the perfect place for high power business lunches and a very special filming location. Today, under new management, spearheaded by Chef and Director of Food & Beverage Brock Kleweno, it caters to the new hip Hollywood crowd with its fantastic and stylistic CalAsian eclectic menu.
Tom Y. Glover, the benevolent owner, has continued to improve and restore this historic building, bringing it into the 21st century; providing not only a wonderful place to enjoy food, but he has also continued to provide food for the soul in this spiritual garden environment. Yamashiro has established itself as a wedding site and hosts many private events throughout their main dining room, bar/ lounge, inner courtyard, and outdoor spaces. Tour groups are especially fond of the amazing views of Hollywood and visit in droves.
The restaurant is open for dinner only, but the serene and mind-nurturing gardens are open all day for the public to enjoy.
