The Hollywood Bowl has announced casting for its upcoming production of "HAIR."
Joining the previously announced Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars”), are TV stars Sarah Hyland (“Modern Family”), Amber Riley and Jenna Ushkowitz (both from “Glee”), Hunter Parrish (“Weeds”) and Broadway’s Benjamin Walker (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”). Also in the cast are recording artist Mario, actress Beverly D’Angelo, Jonah Platt and Kevin Chamberlin.
Directed by Adam Shankman, "HAIR" features book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. The hippie-love, anti-war musical opened on Broadway in 1968 after a short off-Broadway run produced by New York’s Public Theater. Most recently, it was revived on Broadway in 2009, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. A year later, it opened on London’s West End and a touring version hit the U.S. that same year. It features a Grammy-winning score of iconic songs, including “Aquarius,” “Good Morning Starshine” and “Let the Sunshine In.”
In addition to extensive TV directing credits on shows like “Glee” and “Modern Family,” Shankman also directed the motion picture adaptations of the Broadway musicals “Hairspray” and “Rock of Ages.”
This special concert version is part of the the Hollywood Bowl’s Weekend spectacular series and will be performed August 1-3, 2014.
