Fathom Events brings a cult Christmas classic to Huntsville on Thursday, December 5, 2013, when "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (1964) is skewered by a live RiffTrax cast on the big screen. Tickets for the event are currently available, and the show begins at 7 pm Central at the Regal Hollywood 18 on Memorial Parkway.
The movie, so bad that it has a 2.4 rating on IMDB, will be turned into a comedy event by wisecracking commentary from Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, whom many television viewers will remember from "Mystery Science Theater 3000."
Those unable to attend the screening can make their own "MST3K" event at home by purchasing the Kino Lorber Blu-ray edition of the original film from Amazon or other online retailers. The comedy television series that spoofed campy old films helped to make "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" a holiday cult hit by featuring the picture on the show in 1991, which makes the RiffTrax event a return to familiar territory for fans of the show.
