Actress and activist Holly Robinson Peete was on hand at an AT&T store in Burbank yesterday to announce a new partnership between her HollyRod foundation and AT&T's Speak Hope campaign.
As we're wrapping up Autism Awareness Month, AT&T is looking to continue the discussion on families living with autism, by doing some fundraising for HollyRod's Gift of Voice program, which helps supply tablets and software to children afflicted with the disorder. We've seen some positive results from providing autistic children with communication tools to help them communicate with parents and peers. Some non-verbal children are eventually able to transition to speech.
It's an impressive use of consumer technology, opening up new tools and potential for treatment and education. One child in every sixty eight is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
The Speak Hope campaign aims to add some additional funding for the Gift of Voice program, and get more people in various communities sharing and talking. From now until 06/30/14, for every person who likes the Speak Hope Facebook page, and for every tweet which includes the hashtag #ATTSpeakHope, AT&T will donate $1 towards Gift of Voice. The Speak Hope page is also a place for families to share stories about using technology with their children.
It's an easy cause to support. You can watch the attached video for more information, or read AT&T's press release below.
AT&T is collaborating with Holly Robinson Peete, an influential celebrity, mother to a child with autism and activist in the autism community, to launch Speak Hope, a social sharing initiative that drives donations to support Robinson Peete’s HollyRod Foundation’s Gift of Voice program. The program offers tablets with specially-designed apps to children with autism; in essence providing them with a voice. AT&T is committed to making technology accessible and beneficial to everyone, which is why they are proud to team up with the HollyRod Foundation on this important initiative.
