Holland America making the suite life at sea more affordable and sweeter

Most savvy seafarers prefer suites on ships, not just because of the luxurious ring to the name but due to the basics, they are bigger, more comfortable and often come with extra perks. Some cruise lines such as Crystal, Silversea and Princess provide amenities such as butler service, special soaps and toiletries, free laundry service, bar set ups, afternoon canapés and other amenities to their suite guests. And today, Holland America announced it was ‘suitening’ the pot with perks for passengers who who book a suite on qualifying Explore 4 itineraries such as a $300 onboard spending credit per stateroom ($150 per person), a complimentary Canaletto dinner, a Signature Beverage Package and a Pinnacle Grill dinner for guests booking an ocean-view and higher category stateroom. Free or reduced cruise fares for third and fourth guests in the same stateroom on select sailings and 50 percent reduced deposits.

It's been awhile since we sailed with Holland America, but the last time we did we booked a large suite on the Statendam and were please we did because it enabled us to have full room-service dinners besides additional amenities offered back then. In fact we rarely cruise anyother way. It's well worth the splurge, maties. "People hear the word 'suite' and think it's going to be expensive, but with four different categories to choose from and our 'Explore 4' benefits and savings Holland America Line's suites can be a great value for guests," said Richard Meadows, Holland America Line's executive vice president, sales, marketing and guest programs. "All of our staterooms include pampering touches and special amenities, but the suites offer extra indulgences to enhance the cruise experience."

Holland America Line offers four suite categories such as: Vista Suite (Verandah Suite), Signature Suite (Verandah Suite with additional sofa bed), Neptune Suite (Deluxe Verandah Suite) and Pinnacle Suite (Penthouse Verandah Suite).

Pinnacle Suites, available on five Holland America Line ships, come with a full-sized dining room, large bathtub and oversized whirlpool tub. Pinnacle and Neptune suite guests also score exclusive access to the Neptune Lounge—a special place for relaxing and socializing that features a concierge at your disposal. The lounge is also equipped with worktables, a large screen television, library, sofas and chairs, complimentary refreshments throughout the day and Wi-Fi for a small charge. One-Touch 24-hour concierge service even is available when the Neptune Lounge is closed. Additional Pinnacle and Neptune suite perks include corsages and boutonnieres for the first formal night, cold hors d'oeuvres served before dinner each evening on request, binoculars and umbrellas for use on the cruise, priority tender boarding, complimentary laundry service, and in-suite high tea service on request.

Additional suite amenities, depending on category could include a wide selection of pillows, fresh flowers, personalized stationery, a premium duvet, oversized bath towels, and soft, cotton bathrobes and slippers.

Suite fares are of course more expensive that regular cabins but if you book through the "Explore 4" promotion, the cost goes down and the perks rise.
