Holistic vs. non-holistic couples

Sometimes two people meet, something clicks between them right away, and a relationship develops.  Both of them may get to the point where they begin to think they are meant to be together forever.  That's the time when any differences need to be either reconciled or igored.

When one of those issues to be dealt with is a disagreement over a basic belief in a holistic lifestyle, ie. natural foods, alternative healthcare, and a chemical-free home, the fur can fly.  Either one of the two will openly ridicule the other, or will grudgingly suppress his/her opposition.  When there is no peace between the couple over such an important matter, the relationship is not going to thrive.

In the case of hostility by one partner against holistic theories and practices, there is going to be a noticeable lack of respect for the natural-themed half.  Needless to say, such a situation is bound to contribute to strife and the eventual breakdown of the relationship.

Should one partner opt, instead, for denial of true feelings and compliance with the other's views, it's only a matter of time before this erupts.  One person, no matter what the issue, cannot successfully hold in his/her feelings and opinions forever.  The build-up of frustration will sooner or later blow up like a geyser.

A person who is accustomed to a healthy, natural diet will suffer if coerced into a life of junkfood and inactivity.  Having to share a home with a smoker, or live with chemical cleansers, will also cause a decline in health.  Conversely, a dedicated couch-potato/junkfood lover/smoker who has to give up unhealthy practices may find the transition unpleaant.

Pre-marriage counseling is always a sound idea; but where the holistic-vs.-conventional question is concerned, it's best to straighten things out early, or else seek a partner who is like-minded.
