Holidays again

Holiday time can be quite daunting to those who are trying to lose weight. Well, with all the tempting dinner parties loaded with high calorie foods and desserts, it's no wonder we can't keep our hands out of the cookie jar. The good news is one meal is not going to ruin you. As long as you eat right and exercise regularly the rest of the time and get back to your routine. You need to eat 3,500 calories to gain one pound of body fat, so it's unlikely that a single overindulgence will cause much damage. What we need to learn is that it is a choice. We are giving ourselves permission to indulge, and as soon as its over, we need to go back to following the healthy eating plan we normally do. The mistake people make that causes the most damage is when dieters give up because of one setback. Telling yourself its ok to binge the whole day or even the whole weekend because you think you "blew your diet" is a disaster waiting to happen.
When you do overindulge, it's important not to beat yourself up about it. Allowing yourself to give into temptation once in a while is not only ok, but it helps you feel like you're not completely depriving yourself of your favorite treats during this time of year. Accepting this is half the battle. Once you overeat for one day, get back on track right away. Be conscious of what you're eating and how much you're eating the very next day.
Some good tips for getting back on track:
•Drink plenty of water
•Have a light breakfast of fruit and yogurt, or one cup of whole grain cereal with fat free milk
•Eat small healthy meals throughout the day to keep yourself from getting hungry
•Choose healthy proteins, and be sure to eat fruits and plenty of vegetables
