What better way to spend the holidays than by watching your favorite movies at the local independent movie theater? Coming soon, Maiden Alley Cinema is featuring "Elf" and "White Christmas".
"Elf" is part of the theater's "Movies for Me" - a program directed towards children - but is a family favorite for all ages. The laugh-out-loud movie stars Will Ferrel as Buddy, an ordinary man who was raised as an adopted elf that finally learns he is actually human and makes his journey to find his home. Elf also stars James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Zooey Deschanel, and Bob Newhart. You can only catch Elf once - it will be playing Saturday, December 5, at 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4 for all ages, and comes with a free child-size popcorn.
A classic for the adults this year is the 1954 White Christmas featuring Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye. The cinema describes the plot as follows: "After leaving the Army after W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters (Betty and Judy) who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, is the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General." White Christmas will be featured on Sunday, December 20th, at 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices for this film are $5.
