Orlando the faithful guide dog answered his call to action as his blind owner, Cecil Williams fainted and fell onto a New York City subway train tracks. According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 Cecil Williams, a 61 year old blind gentleman, passed out falling towards the tracks as his guide dog, Orlando tried to keep him up.
A beloved guide dog leaps into action to save his owner from certain death.
As Williams fell on the tracks in front of an oncoming train his guide dog jumped after him dutifully trying to protect his human mate. Witnesses reported Orlando as licking Cecil Williams with kisses in his attempt to move him and wake him. Luckily Orlando succeeded in getting both himself and his owner tucked into a trench between rails as those watching called for help succeeding in slowing the train as it moved over the two.
Emergency workers arrived to place Williams on a stretcher as he awoke from the nightmare. Williams is recovering in the hospital luckily with only a bandage on his head. His black Lab, Orlando is sitting faithfully by his side. Bittersweet is that Orlando who will be 11 on Jan 5 and is set to retire as a guide dog. Williams sadly has stated that his medical benefits will only cover a working dog leaving him to find a new home for Orlando who has become more than just a work partner, but is a part of his family and a beloved pet.
Perhaps one holiday miracle can be turned into another in order to keep this loving dog living with Cecil Williams and a new guide dog into his retirement as a pet. Orlando has proved his love and devotion deserving to retire around someone who loves him with all his heart so who better than Cecil Williams. Orlando has certainly shown that dogs truly are man's best friend.
In a world of harshness there are wonderful miracles that happen proving why life is worth living to its fullest. Never be afraid to dance!
