Holiday Giving - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Today I made a batch of biscuits and I remembered the first time I ever made biscuits from scratch… I guess the first time I ever had a reason too… I was about 18 years old, I was working as a Home Health Aid at the time. One of my patients was an elderly lady named Ellen, she was this amazingly strong and vibrant woman who had outlived her husband, who had as I recall gone blind before his death, they had met in this very beautiful love story that she told me all about. I’d sink into a chair and listen mostly to her stories about life and such, as I served her, simply, and with love.

Anyway, she kept reminiscing on these fluffy buttery biscuits that she loved so much. I stayed with her over night, and one of my duties was to fix her a nice plate of breakfast in the morning before I left. I decided, inspired by her passion that lingered for these buttery things, to make her biscuits that morning. I served them with butter, and a side of honey, and a side of jam, for her to choose from, with apricots and fresh berries, to whom had become a friend, that, one of my last mornings, and I heard Ellen passed away not long after. She was an otherwise strong woman full of memory, and life, but who was also fighting cancer.

You never really know where life takes you, was one of the main message Ellen imparted on me, and embrace it. Of all the many things that I am grateful for, and they are to many to even begin to name them… from the splendor, to the manly worldly comforts that I myself have forgotten to feel grateful for like water, and food, and shoes on my feet. One of the things I am most grateful for is my health, especially as I reflect around Christmas.

We have friends that could use our help out there tonight, children, sweet beautiful children, I shed a few tears with them tonight of hope, and comfort.

Tonight I ask, I urge and pray that hearts find some extra to donate to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, especially around the holidays. A reminder now more than ever that we love and appreciate everyone who is struggling right now even with a gift that everyday some take for granted, health.

If you are looking for a meaningful gift this Christmas, this is absolutely it… they have a beautiful selection of holiday gifts that benefit the children of St. Jude directly, and you get to give them the greatest gift, you help them to live. What a blessing.

Peace and comfort be to these children tonight who bravely faced challenge everyday.

That… my Christmas Wish #1, if I had one…Health and Well being for everyone. I’ll pretend for a while that I am a little girl, and not be afraid to make wishes again and believe in them coming true, I’ll dare to believe that I, we have a Christmas Wish or too, and a lot of things are possible.
