The UN World Food Programme (WFP) just issued a press release with some gift ideas for the holidays that can help fight hunger.
Here is the WFP press release:
WFP has three ideas for anyone in search of original gifts for loved ones this holiday season. Each of these will help to feed the world’s hungry – something that the receiver of the gift is sure to appreciate.
1. Gift of Hope
Instead of clothes or gadgets, why not splash out on a virtual gift that will help us feed the hungry. For example, you can buy enough nutritious biscuits to feed 100 people in an emergency. Then a person of your choice receives an e-card informing them of this fine gesture carried out in their name.
These gifts are virtual to the person you’re send them to, but very real to the hungry who benefit.
2. Shop against Hunger
Visit our online shopping mall where you can find everything from computers to clothes to home and garden accessories. Each time your purchase something, a tiny amount of each purchase is used to buy food for the hungry. In line with WFP’s Fill the Cup campaign to raise funds for hungry schoolchildren the world over, you will always be told how many cups you have filled with your purchase. If you come more than once, you can track total cups filled.
3. Wall Against Hunger
Help us build the Wall Against Hunger! This is an online wall of photos of people who have contributed to the fight against hunger with a donation. Why not make a donation in honour of a friend or relative and place their photo on the Wall?
This person then gets the surprise of seeing their picture on the Wall. They get an e-card, designed by you, which explains who made this gift for them and what it means to the world’s hungry
