Holiday Gift Guide: Slippers for toddlers and preschool-age kids

A chill is in the air and probably on your little one's toes too. Time to snuggle up into a new pair of slippers. Here's a look at some of the best slippers for little feet in the toddler and preschool size range. All would be good bets to put on your holiday gift shopping list...

Satch and Sol "little pups" slippers from SatchSol.com are just about the cutest little slippers out there and so practical. They're even cuter in person than in the photo to the left. They're not only fun but can also function as a shoe on cold (dry) days. They're handmade with felted wool by artisans in Mongolia paid "fair trade wages." They come in sizes 3-6 and fit pretty true to size, maybe a bit on the small side. My 2 year old who wears a size 6 fits in them perfectly but with no room to grow in. Size 7-11 are available in different colors but the same cuteness and quality. The ears are an extension of the seamless wool slippers, so they're built for tugging on as tots pull them on all by themselves. They stay on pretty well too and are easy for little ones to walk in unlike some other types of toddlers boots/slippers. A nice bonus: Satch and Sol is mom owned and operated in the USA and is a member of Green America.

Acorn Teddie Pair II slippers from PlayOutdoors.com are my 3.5 year olds favorite slippers because, as she says, "Mommy these are so soft and comfy and warm." She likes them so much she even wears the to sleep on cold nights, which surprised me because she rarely even will leave socks on for long. These slippers have a memory foam cushion, which really impressed her (and me). She brought them over to me several times to have me feel the inside cushioning. The outside is fleecey with suede soles. These are a practical slipper that stays on well while running around the house and playing too. The child size X-Small fits my daughters 9.5 sized feet. Added bonus: you can machine wash and dry them!

For a slipper that is all about fun check out Sound Tracks Talking Puppy Plush Slipper from ShoeBuy.com. Walk a little on the wild side with these slippers shaped like animal feet. They come is dog, moose, wolf, bear, duck and frog paws. The right slipper has a hidden button kids can push to make their animal bark, quack or what have you. The x-small is quite big for little ones that come in on the small end of the size range. More of a perfect fit for kids on the larger end. My 3.5 year old with size 9.5 feet has been sporting these around. Her 2 year old sister with size 6 feet loved them but they were difficult for her to walk well in. They feel like stuffed animals for the feet and would be fun for everyday dress up play for both boys and girls.

From monsters and unicorns to stripes and solids Nowali mocs from Nowali.com come in a fabric option for just about every taste. These Swedish slippers go on easily and are nice and warm. Plus they stay on. My 3 year old thinks her monster slippers are a hoot to wear while watching Monsters, Inc. They come as small as 3 months up to 6Y. The 4Y fits my 3.5 year old's 9-10 sized foot. These are top quality construction and wash really well in the machine too.

Rich Frog's Terrible Twos Shoes from RichFrog.com turn your little one into a little monster. The slippers are made in several other designs too: princess, fairy, duck, creature and bears. They only come in one size - toddler size 7, which generally fits two year olds, hence the name. My oldest got these when she turned two and they're still in good condition and being used by her now two year old sister and they'll be passed down again to their brother when he's the right age/size.

Pillow Pets slippers from MyPillowPets.com are super friendly and fuzzy, like having a stuffed toy on each foot. They come in coordinating creatures with the company's pillow pets. Bees, lady bugs, monkeys, pandas, pigs and penguins. These slippers slip on with open backs so they're easy for kids to put on themselves. But they also come off easier when running around. The small size fit a 9-10 kid foot well.

Robeez and Isabooties also make good slippers shoes for babies and toddlers. More about those HERE.
