Blind Willie's was packed for the Atlanta Blues Society Christmas Party Sunday afternoon. All of the winners from the Atlanta heat of the International Blues Challenge performed and a collection was taken for each group to help them get to Memphis. The society matched the money collected and every group got a substantial amount to help them with lodging, food and other necessities in January.
The performances began with Scene of the Crime, the youth group who won the People's Chocie award. They started everything out on a high note and the great music continued with the group who won the Youth category, Abe Lincoln and the Log Lawyers. Next we heard from the winners from the Solo/Duo category, the Timo Arthur Duo with Timo Arthur and Tamara Nicolai. They did a fabulous set. I always love watching Tamara looking so elegant and sounding so great playing that upright bass and the combination of the two of them is just awesome.
Next were the fantastic Band category winners, The Cazanovas. They are so amazing and always bring such great energy every time they play. Maurice Nazarro's harmonica playing and Danny Vinson's lead guitar are an unbeatable combination and the whole band is so great that every Atlanta blues fan can be thrilled to be represented by them and also by the other musicians! Memphis is going to know that Atlanta has talent!
Fat Matt's provided delicious food for us all, including not only barbeque but collard greens, macaronia and cheese, and more. The tiny cupcakes for dessert were amazing!
Add to that all the warmth and love that all the ABS members and guests and staff of Blind Willie's generated and it was an event to be remembered. We collected a bunch of toys for Toys for Tots as well! Visit the slidshow to see pictures from the party.
Kudos to everyone involved in planning the event and to Blind Willie's for one of the best parties of the holiday season!
