Now that the turkey feast has passed, the Christmas season is in full swing. This time of year brings many events, parties, and gatherings, and the offerings from the local area do not disappoint, as it provides a plethora of unique holiday extravaganzas.

Christmas at Longwood: Longwood Gardens at Christmas is a holiday tradition for southern Chester County. The extravagant garden light show cannot be missed. Various musical groups perform in the conservatory, and vibrant displays provide unique ideas for holiday decorations. Longwood’s Christmas show is on-going from now until Jan. 12th. Pre-purchased, timed tickets are mandatory.

Yuletide at Winterthur: The famous Du Pont residence and museum gussies up each holiday season, just as the Du Pont family celebrated in days of yore. Take the holiday tour through the mansion’s ornate rooms decked out in seasonal style. This event continues through Jan. 5th. See the website for ticket prices and hours.

Brandywine River Museum: Each Christmas season, The Brandywine River Museum showcases its famous “critter” tree decorations (ornaments made from natural materials in the shape of animals and holiday motifs) and extensive model train display. This year the museum has added an antique doll exhibit to the seasonal offerings. The event continues until Jan. 5th.

Zoo Noel: On Dec. 6, 7, 14, and 15, Santa visits various parts of the world, like the arctic and the outback, at the Philadelphia Zoo. There will be crafts, activities, and hot chocolate.

Holiday Panto at People’s Light and Theatre: People’s Light is offering Cinderella as this year’s musical entertainment. The panto has become a standard holiday event for the Malvern area, as it blends a fractured fairy tale, comedy, music, dance, audience participation, and general silliness to both young and old. The play will run through Jan. 12th.

Christmas Village: Love Park in Philadelphia plays host to a European style Christmas market from now until New Year’s Day. You’ll find unique gift shopping opportunities, food, and entertainment throughout the holiday season.

Old Fashioned Christmas in West Chester: The town of West Chester offers an abundance of entertainment Dec. 5-8 including: a parade, a visit from Santa Claus, a tree lighting, the holiday production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, live music, and more.

Koziar’s Christmas Village: This wonderland of lights features a handcrafted train set, decorated shop windows, Santa Claus, a toy shop, and lights galore. The village is open from now until New Year’s Day and is located just outside of Reading, PA.
