Holiday events take over this week in Orlando local music

This coming week, December 16-22, is packed full of Holiday events as well as the usual great selection of live music events.

There are two Orlando bands that have Kickstarter projects running this week. SoulSwitch just kicked off their fundraiser for their new album. They are looking to raise $25,000 and have until January 21 to get it. Music fans can check out their campaign here. There’s a new project with Brett Hestla, Will Hunt and Elliott Ecton named City of Fallen Kings. They have a Kickstarter project running until December 29. The band is hoping to hit their $8,000 goal to record their debut CD. Check out their Kickstarter here.

There are quite a few charity events this week featuring live Orlando local music. On Thursday is a Toys For Tots event featuring live music from Orlando singer/songwriter Big Ron Betts at The Lucky Lure. Friday at The House of Blues music fans can catch sets from Orlando bands SoulSwitch, Gorillafight and Born From Ashes with Tampa band Not Tonight Josephine in a Toys For Tots event with Mel’s Bad Girls Club. Also on Friday is The Family Gang’s toy drive event at Austin’s Coffee and Film.

Saturday at Will’s Pub is An Orlando Tribute to Jimi Hendrix event and canned food drive featuring live music from Orlando bands The Absinthe Trio, Savi Fernandez, The Dropa Stone, Jessy Martens, funkUs, New Originals, Jeff Nolan, Rocketfish and more for this special show. On Sunday is the Heart Strings Music 10th Annual Lennon Tribute Christmas Party Fundraiser to benefit local singer/songwriter Steve Garron who needs a kidney transplant. There will be live music and art performances by Orlando and Central Florida bands and artists The Actomatics, Gaby Aparicio, Bad Santa & The Angry Elves, Chuck Culbertson, The Fling, funkUs, Gerry Williams, Juno Smile, Nick Landess, My Generation, The RedCoats, Stephen Rock & Brian Chodorcoff, Jim O’Rourke &The Rugs, David Schweizer, Wheeler Newman & The CRC, Thomas & Hannah Wynn, Gene Zimmerman, Beartoe, British Invasion, Beatlish, J-Sun, Shewbird, Stahl in Time and more.

Monday, December 16

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) - RPR presents open mic hosted by Central Florida singer/songwriter Brandon Parker Harris at 8 p.m. This FREE event is 18+.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Orlando area band Blue Stone Circle from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Tuesday, December 17

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - Twisted Tuesday with Orlando band Bothering Dennis for this 18+ show. This FREE event includes live music and other entertainment as well as a home-cooked meal, but donations are appreciated. The live music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Wills Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - Norsekorea presents live music from Orlando bands Hungover and The New Lows along with bands Placeholder and In Between for this 18+ show. Tickets are $6 in advance or $8 at the door. The doors open at 8 p.m.

The Peacock Room - 1321 North Mills Ave. - Live music from Orlando’s Drew Yardis and Dave Mann.

Tanqueray’s - 100 S. Orange Ave. - Live music from Orlando band The Groove Orient every Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. for this FREE 21+ show.

Jazz Tastings - 164 Lake Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from Orlando’s John Valeri Quartet at 7 p.m.

Sleeping Moon Cafe - 495 N. Semoran Blvd., Suite 1 - Talent Night Tuesdays open mic from 7-10 p.m. hosted by Orlando’s Purple Kloud.

BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - Colours of the Culture and Nu South Music present live music from Orlando’s Niko Is, Andrew Floyd, Feddi Family, Brezee, Goose and more for this all ages show. Tickets are $10 at the door and the doors open at 8 p.m.

Wills Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - Live music from Orlando bands Fortune Howl and Marble along with Slow Magic for this 18+ show. The doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

Tanqueray’s - 100 S. Orange Ave. - Live music from Orlando band Homestruck Orchestra at 10:30 p.m. for this FREE show.

SoNapa Grille - 640 S. Orlando Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from Orlando’s RonJohn Band from 5-8 p.m.

Dexter’s Winter Park - 558 W. New England Ave. - Live acoustic music from Orlando’s Holcomb Brothers Band at 7 p.m.

Jazz Tastings - 164 Lake Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from Orlando’s Tony Wynn and Camaron Brown at 7 p.m.

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - The Writer’s Circle, an open circle workshop and collaboration of song, poetry and comedic writers at 9 p.m. hosted by Orlando singer/songwriter Laine Breeden.

On line everywhere - WPRK 91.5 - WPRK’s Local Heroes radio show from 5-7 p.m. features local talent from actors, directors, photographers, entrepreneurs, and musicians with DJ Daniel Pacchioni playing music from local Orlando bands. This week’s in studio guest is Orlando band Blaine the Mono. Also visiting the studio for their final show (until March 2014) will be Frankie E, Niko Is and Orlando Style Magazine.

Thursday, December 19

The Plaza Live - 425 North Bumby Ave. - Live music from Orlando singer/songwriter Britt Daley opening for Tegan and Sara for this show. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door.

Uncle Lou’s - 1016 N. Mills Ave. - Live music from Orlando bands Control This! and Marky and the Sharks, with Florida band Gnarly Whales and National touring acts Lo Cash Ninjas and Decathect for this show.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. - Maniacal Mojo and Sickfuknross present live music from Orlando bands Scytherium and Thicket with Central Florida bands Ebullition and Terrorizer for this 16+ show. Tickets are $10 for 21+ and $12 for 16-20. The doors open at 8 p.m.

Buena Vista Dr. - Orlando Rocks For Tots presented by Mel’s Bad Girls Club featuring live music from Orlando bands SoulSwitch, Gorillafight and Born From Ashes with Tampa band Not Tonight Josephine for this show. FREE tickets are available from the bands. Guitar Center of Winter Park has donated a white Jackson soloist guitar that will be signed by all the band members and raffled off. Mel’s Bad Girls Club will be collecting toys and monetary donations for Toys For Tots. The doors open at 7 p.m.
