It's December already! This weekend, and throughout the final weeks of the year, there is much to do in Metropolis.
Saturday, December 5th, is their annual Christmas Parade, which begins at 1:30 at Washington Park (the intersection of Metropolis Street and Second Street) and ends on Maket Street. Come hear the Massac County High School award-winning marching band and see local holiday floats.
Also on Saturday will be the Holiday Bazaar. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Metropolis Community Center, you can visit and shop local home-based vendors. There's much to shop - for yourselves and others - at this one-time event!
The Southern Illinois Spinners and Weavers Guild will be giving free demonstrations at Fort Massac State Park from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Admission for this event is free.
Sunday, December 6 is the Massac County Historical Society's Tour of Homes. This is an annual afternoon event featuring local unique and historical homes. There is a small admission fee. For more information, call 618-524-8297.
Massiac Marines, French and Indian War period re-enactors, present a free living history program at Fort Massac State Park on Saturday, December 12. 10am-4pm. This is always an interesting learning and cultural experience for young and old.
On Sunday, December 13, don't miss the Olde Tyme Christmas at Fort Massac State Park. Re-enactors showcase the Christmas traditions of the French Colonial, American Revolutionary, Lewis and Clark, War of 1812 and Civil War periods in the fort ,and music and refreshments are provided in the visitors center. 1-4 p.m. Free.
