Hillary Burns (Bonnie Somerville) has always struggled with life and live and constantly feels the pressure to marry from her demanding mother, Meredith (Shelley Long). This holiday season, Hillary thinks she finally has it right and plans her handsome new fiancé home for Thanksgiving weekend.
The finance, a workaholic lawyer, breaks up with Hillary just before Thanksgiving and Hillary scrambles to fine a replacement or risk facing the wrath of her meddling mother. She posts an ad online and hires David (Jordan Bridges), an out-of-work actor to pose as her fiancé in front of her mom, her dad (Sam McMurray) and her snobbish sister Trish (Haylie Duff).
