Holiday crafts for kids: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Monday your kids may be off of school for Martin Luther King Jr's Day. Are you in need of some activities to keep them occupied while learning about the reason they get the school day off? Here are a few craft activities to help teach them the message of Dr. King.

The web site Artists Helping Children has an incredible blog for finding crafts for kids related to the holidays. For Martin Luther King Jr Day there are some really fun and creative ideas including unity bracelets or medallions, origami doves, multicultural and all colors are beautiful projects, kids holding hands, multicolor hands wreaths, and unity place mats, to name a few.

From the TLC channel on TV come some fun ideas including making Martin's Match Game, Peace Medals, Peaceful Puppets and I Have a Dream pencil holders.

While you're working on your projects with the kids, take the chance to teach them about Martin Luther King Jr and what he stood for. Check out Scholastic.com for some great lesson plans about him.
