The holidays are stressful and many times it is easy to forget to share the cheer, be kind to one another, and just enjoy your fellow mankind but this weekend Balboa Park is doing its part to spread happiness throughout San Diego. If you didn’t make it out to the park tonight, don’t let Saturday slip by without making an appearance with your loved ones. December Nights at Balboa Park is going on Friday, December 06 to Saturday, December 07 until 11 pm. This is the 35th annual free festival that features a Christmas tree lighting, food vendors, holiday music, and free admission into many of the museums. Friday night the park was crowded with happy families and friends who came out to celebrate. The smell of kettle corn, hot chocolate, and cider warmed the chilled air as the songs of carolers and staged performances of various San Diego glee clubs carried across the square. Perhaps the most memorable and must see event is the Old Town Theater that has opened its doors to Whoville and has the Grinch in the center posing by the giant Who Christmas tree for pictures, free of charge. Another must see while it’s free is the Museum of Natural History who allowed crowds of neighbors into look at the dinosaur bones and entertained with lovely tunes performed by the Tubafours, an all tuba band. The festivities are worth the traffic and the cooler weather makes it perfect for snuggling and sipping a warm drink. Get a cup of cheer while it’s here San Diego!
