Meanwhile, Arizona State nearly won the Pac-12 title, with that particular game, the title game, their sole conference loss this season. The latest televised and live stream NCAA football bowl game on the schedule arrives for fans courtesy of ESPN networks.
The ESPN.com site reported Dec. 30 that tonight's game features the No. 16-ranked Sun Devils who won eight games in a row by an average of nearly 20 points. Their winning ways stopped with a game against the Stanford Cardinal which they lost 38-14, making it their worst defeat in three years' time. Overall, Arizona State finished at 10-3 and 8-1 in the conference. Their opponents didn't fare very well, and seem lucky to be in a bowl game after the horrible finish to their season.
Texas Tech won their first seven games of the seasn, including a big win over then-No.24 TCH 20-10. However, they lost their last five games of the season, including blowout losses to Kansas State, Baylor and Texas to close the season. They finished out the season at 7-5 overall and 4-5 in their division, while ranking second in the nation in passing yards with 392 per game.
Tech has been led by two quarterbacks over the course of the season, with Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb. Both threw for 2,315 yards on the season, with Mayfield throwing 12 touchdown passes and Webb completing 16 TD's. Jace Amaro led the team in receiving, racking up 1,240 yards on 98 receptions, along with 7 touchdowns. Eric Ward added 904 yards on 80 catches for 8 touchdowns as well.
Tonight they'll be heavily outmatched by a Sun Devils team that is 9th overall in scoring, averaging 41 points per game. Among the Sun Devils' wins this past season were victories over formerly-ranked teams including then-No.20 Wisconsin 32-30, then-No.20 Washington 53-24 and then-No.14 UCLA 38-33. Quartback Taylor Kelly led their attack with 286-of-455 passes completed for 3,510 yards and 28 touchdowns, with Marion Grice leading the ground attack. Grice compiled nearly 1,000 yards this season, with fourteen touchdowns on his 191 carries. Kelly finished second in rushing for the team with 473 yards and 8 touchdowns as well.
The current point spread favors Arizona State by as many as 16 1/2 points after first opening at 13 points in their favor. Various books have the over/under total points for the game set at 73, which could mean it will be one high-scoring contest between these schools. Weather is expected to be clear with a kickoff temperature of 67 degrees.
