Holiday Beatles tip: "Fab Four FAQ 2.0"

This is the first in a series of short reviews of things to consider giving (or giving yourself) for the holiday. We'll have a link soon where you'll be able to see all of these in one place.)

"Fab Four FAQ 2.0" by Robert Rodriguez: -- Like the Rodriguez's first book, "Fab Four FAQ," this is a highly addictive book spotlighting trivia and fun facts. This time out, though, unlike the first book, this one concentrates on the Fab Four solo years.

A look at the index features chapters on Beatle-related movies ("Rockshow," "That'll Be the Day," "The Concert for Bangla Desh," to name a couple), friends and sidemen (including Eric Clapton, Jim Keltner, Billy Preston), best albums (including "Plastic Ono Band", "All Things Must Pass," "Ram") and guest appearances (George Harrison on a Cheech and Chong song, Lennon on Mick Jagger's "Too Many Cooks").

It's a book you can pick up, open and start reading. Lots of fun.

Personally I like Fab Four 2.0 better than the first book. I think it's because the Beatles info is so readily available while this book covered a lot of ground that receives little attention. I learned all kinds of things in this book. For example that famous line in Lennon's song: "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." Turns out John didn't write it. That line, according to this book, first appeared in a Readers Digest magazine years before John wrote Beautiful Boy. But John, like the sponge and he and Paul both were, certainly put it to good use.

Anyway, I also liked that this book focused more than the usual passing attention on George and Ringo. Plus, it's nice to read a book that doesn't seem to play favorites and treats all four Beatles fairly.

    Just my 2 cents.
