Dayton OH – September 5, 2009

As Jerry Lewis gets ready to continue his Labor Day tradition on TV, Kettering continues a tradition started in 1959 with the first “Kettering Day,” held to promote a YMCA membership drive.

As things that are popular tend to do, the yearly gathering grew, and became what is now known as Holiday at Home, including a parade on Labor Day, and entertainment and activities both Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday and Monday you can enjoy the fruits of the selection labors of auto show chairperson Paul Ebright.

According to the H@H web site, Ebright has been “going to all auto shows within a 50 miles radius,” and inviting the best of the best to the invitation only auto show at Holiday at Home.

The two day auto show is an interesting format. On Sunday from 11am to 6pm, the cars are all from before 1950 and after 1959. (As noted, it’s invitation only, and all autos must be pre-registered.)

The show on Monday includes only autos from 1950 through 1959. Hours are 11am to 5pm.

Judges will evaluate the cars, and award trophies to the crowd favorites.

The car show is held at the Lincoln Park Commons area by the Fraze Pavilion.

Will one of these cars from the Riverside Community Festival be invited to the K@H auto show? Only Paul Ebright knows for sure.

Entertainment on Sunday includes The Grateful Parrott at the Fraze from 11am to 6pm. The Termites will be in the Lincoln Park Commons from 11am to 2:30pm, and The Stumps from 2:30 to 6pm.

You can also partake in some Mike Glynn's karaoke from 11am to 6pm, and The Measures will play at the Kettering Government Plaza from 11am to 1pm and High Five plays from 1 to 6pm.

Entertainment on Monday includes The Grateful Parrott at the Fraze from noon to 5pm, and The Fries will be in the Lincoln Park Commons from noon to 5pm.

Mike Glynn's karaoke returns from noon to 5pm, and Eric Loy will play at the Kettering Government Plaza from noon to 2pm, and Soul Express plays from 2 to 5pm.

Arts & craft area will be available to check out as well in the Kettering Government Center and Lincoln Park Commons from 11am to 6pm on Sunday, and noon to 5pm on Monday.

Kids will enjoy the children’s activities at Christ United Methodist Church from 11am to 6pm on Sunday, and noon to 5pm on Monday.

Perhaps you want to start out the day with some exercise. There’s a 5K race that starts at 8am. “It starts and ends on Far Hills Ave at Kettering Sports Medicine Center,” and follows the parade route. They welcome all ages, and will have a pancake breakfast at Fairmont High School after the race. Pre-registration is over, but they will have day-of-race registration available.

The parade starts at Far Hills and Stroop around 9:55am. Be there early for a good spot, because it gets crowded, and you’ll need to bring your own chair.
